REPORTS TO: Production Supervisor

JOB TYPE: Seasonal, hourly, guaranteed up to 40 forty-hour weeks per year

START DATE: on or about August 1, 2022

SALARY RANGE: per FTS/IATSE 22 agreement $45.70/hr, OT after 40

BENEFITS:  

• Pension, health, and annuity contributions per IATSE agreement

• Up to four week vacation payout

• Staff employee transit benefit (currently $130/month metro contribution OR 50% parking)

Position Summary

Ford’s Theatre Society (FTS) is hiring a Head Electrician that is the hands-on lighting programmer/technical position for the organization. The Head Electrician will take the lead in the creation, installation, maintenance, and execution of all technical aspects of the lighting systems and lighting designs for the Ford’s Theatre Society’s programming.

Essential Duties

• Actively participate in Ford’s Theatre's ongoing efforts to become an anti-racist organization

• Prepares all paperwork necessary for the implementation of lighting design, including any rental equipment required. Hangs, focuses, strikes, and maintains conventional and automated lighting equipment

• Programs and runs light console for rehearsals, performances for all FTS programming

• Builds and installs show specific specialty lighting and special effects/atmospheric elements

• Collaborates with other production department stakeholders on the safe installation of set specific lighting, rigging and special effects

• Provide general technical labor for rehearsals, load-ins, work note sessions, and strikes

• Attend rehearsals, meetings (including departmental and staff), trainings and notes sessions as required

• Maintains and repairs lighting, special effects, and atmospherics equipment inventory, including software and firmware updates as necessary

• Work respectfully and collaboratively with Ford’s Theatre Society staff, visiting artists and outside vendors and contractors

• Adhere to, promote and support the Ford’s Theatre Society’s safety and company policies

Skills and Qualifications

Demonstrated professional experience is required in:

• Theatrical electrics

• Various show control protocols

• Low voltage systems and wiring practices

• Electrical and electronics soldering

Ford’s Theatre Society (FTS) is hiring three Assistant Stagehands that are responsible for assisting and collaborating in the creation, installation, maintenance, and execution of all technical aspects of the scenery, lighting, automation, video, sound, special effect/atmospheric elements of the theatrical designs.

• Actively participate in Ford’s Theatre's ongoing efforts to become an anti-racist organization

• Provides labor as run crew and understudies run crew positions for assigned shows

• Provide general technical labor for rehearsals, load-ins, work note sessions, and strikes

• Attend rehearsals, meetings (including departmental and staff), trainings and notes sessions as required

• Maintain and initiate repair of equipment

• Work respectfully and collaboratively with FTS staff, visiting artists and outside vendors and contractors

• Adhere to, promote and support the Ford’s Theatre Society’s safety and company policies

Demonstrated professional experience is required in:

• Theatrical electrics

• Carpentry

• Stage rigging

• Audio systems

Related experience in production, video projection, and scenery automation is a plus

About Ford's Theater

Ford’s Theatre explores and celebrates the legacy of President Abraham Lincoln and the American experience through theatre and education. During the Civil War, Ford’s Theatre was one of Washington’s top entertainment venues, giving Washingtonians a much-needed break from the realities of war. President Lincoln, who loved theatre, opera and Shakespeare, visited Ford’s Theatre on at least 10 formal occasions.
 
On April 14, 1865, Lincoln and his wife decided to visit the theatre to see the comedy Our American Cousin. John Wilkes Booth, a Confederate sympathizer, snuck into the President’s Box and shot Lincoln with a single-shot Deringer pistol. Booth fled into the night, and Lincoln died the next morning in the Petersen House, a boarding house located just across the street from the theatre.
 
Lincoln’s assassination shocked the nation, and Ford’s Theatre remained closed for more than 100 years. In 1968, Ford’s Theatre officially reopened as a national historic site and theatre producing live performances. Today, Ford’s offers inspiring theatrical productions, interactive museum exhibits and engaging education programs.
