SALARY RANGE: $80,000 - $90,000

Position Summary

Oversee the implementation of all company productions, institutional events, and new media productions, including leading technical rehearsals and preview performances. Provide support and guidance for performance programming from the Education Department. Supervise all Department Heads (Scenic, Costumes, Props, Lights, Sound, Stage Management) and the Assistant Production Manager. Chair company Safety Committee. Represent Production on Senior Staff and participate in the governance of the company.

Essential Duties

  • Supervise the production departments in the planning, construction, and maintenance of the physical production for all shows.

  • Coordinate schedules with Department Heads for the successful rehearsal, build, load-in, tech, and performance of company productions, events, new media productions, and Education performances.

  • Work with the General Manager to generate show specific and departmental budgets. Collaborate with Department Heads and creative team to bring designs within budgetary and safety constraints. Track departmental spending and work with General Manager to generate periodic reprojections of annual budget and cash flow models.

  • Ensure successful flow of information between Departments on any elements that share responsibilities, such as practicals in scenery, flown items, and any special effects.

  • Promote and maintain a culture of safety and responsible work environment.

  • Hire, maintain, and dismiss Department Heads as needed. Oversee Department Heads management of their staff.

  • Approve weekly payroll for Artistic and Production employees.

  • Develop and update long range plans for improvement and expansion of theatre equipment and systems.

  • Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of productions and their artistic and technical values.​

Skills and Qualifications

  • A minimum of five (5) years production management experience or its equivalent, preferably at a regional theater.

  • Proven technical abilities, including experience working on musical productions and world premieres.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, with guest artists and colleagues.

  • Impeccable organizational skills and the ability to direct and motivate staff effectively.

  • Comfort with Microsoft Office programs and aptitude for adopting new software tools.

  • Understanding of advanced scheduling, budgeting and bookkeeping practices.

  • Ability to manage and prioritize among multiple projects simultaneously and drive to meet deadlines.

Technical Director

Position Summary

Lead a staff of six in the Scenery Department. Oversee the construction and implementation of scenic elements for all company productions. Signature is launching a capital campaign to construct a new Production Center to house our Scenery, Props, and Costume Shops in upgraded facilities within walking distance of the theater. The Technical Director will play a key role in helping Signature's architects design the space and in the fit out of the Scene Shop.

Essential Duties

  • Supervise the scene shop staff in the construction, load in, and load out of scenery.

  • Coordinate schedules with the Production Manager and other production departments.

  • Work with Production Manager to generate show specific and departmental budgets. Determine material and labor costs of all designs and ensure that they can be implemented and utilized safely. Collaborate with Production Manager and creative team to bring designs within budget. Track departmental spending and work with Production Manager to generate periodic reprojections of annual budget.

  • Create mechanical and working drawings from which the scene shop staff can build scenic elements.

  • Design all scenic systems and oversee the construction and installation of them. Ensure proper functioning and safety of all moving scenic elements.

  • Coordinate with other departments on any elements that share responsibilities, such as units with lights or props as an integral part.

  • Hire, maintain, and dismiss scene shop staff as needed.

  • Develop and update long range plans for improvement and expansion of scene shop and theatre equipment and systems.

Qualified applicants will possess:
