Director of Production/Technical Director


Job Description
Je’Caryous Entertainment is establishing a new hub of production in Houston and seeks a Director of Production/Technical Director (DoP/TD) to support their local theatre facility and commercial theatrical touring properties. The DoP/TD fulfills the creative vision of the design team by overseeing the entire production process, from pre-production, technical rehearsals, performances through the show’s closing. The Dop/TD will also be responsible for the daily operations related to all aspects of theatrical production. This position reports directly to the General Manager and Producers. In this position, the Director of Production creates and manages the production budget with oversight from the General Manager. This position will work with the show’s designers on the realization of their designs through construction, identifies theatrical vendors, the procurement of equipment, hires crew/stagehands, schedules technical rehearsals, and with the Head Carpenter, advances all engagements with the venues.        


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages the design team through the design process, ensuring deadlines are met efficiently and within budget;

  • Oversee, advise, and participate in the planning and execution of all technical aspects of upcoming theatrical productions (both touring and local), including budgeting, scheduling, physical builds, load-ins and load-outs, crew staffing needs, trucking needs, etc.

  • Creates entire pre-production and technical schedule and leads all production meetings; 

  • Coordinates communication between producers, designers, and technical personnel;

  • Bids out designer plans to various shops, vendors, and contractors; 

  • Oversees schedule and budget of scenic construction;

  • Supervises and negotiates the rental and/or purchase of lighting, audio, projection, automation, and any other technical elements need for the production;

  • Leads venue scouting for tour’s technical rehearsals;

  • Provides leadership of and oversight for technical rehearsals;

  • Leads the show’s initial advance with each tour venue, taking local labor conditions (and collective bargaining agreements as applicable) into consideration;

  • Hires, manages, and supports the road crew, including the Head Carpenter, who acts as the Director of Production’s daily representative on the road;

  • Effectively and efficiently manages the logistics of moving show equipment from venue to venue; 

  • Creates safety protocols for touring production personnel; 

  • Develops budgets for potential special events in collaboration with Production Stage Manager (TV appearances, non-theatrical press performances, as applicable). 

  • Creation and Implementation of Technical Riders

  • Set and Costume Bid Analysis & Build Oversight

  • Sound, Lighting, Video, Automation Packages & Rental Coordination

  • Inventory, maintain and safeguard the technical assets of the facility, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, communications equipment, and the use and maintenance of stage facilities

  • Manage the local scene shop and possess the requisite carpentry skills to lead all scenic builds and construction needs

  • Establish systems of operation for existing equipment inventory use

  • Proactively manage all necessary safety regulations, including any licensure or certifications, and ensure that all guest artists or facility visitors are properly informed of company safety policies and procedures

  • Attend all meetings, rehearsals and performances as required by the responsibilities of the position

  • Serve in a leadership position of the company, advising all members on best industry standards and practices

Qualifications: 

  • 3+ years of practical experience in Technical Theatre, Design, Engineering, or a related field

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Resourceful, creative problem solver with the ability to work independently

  • Meticulous attention to detail and ability to prioritize effectively

  • Knowledge and experience with internet and computer software applications (i.e. AutoCAD, Microsoft Suite, Google Suite) 

Salary: $75k - $125k

General Manager


Job Description
Je’Caryous Entertainment is establishing a new hub of production in Houston and seeks a General Manager to support their commercial theatrical touring properties.
The GM will be responsible for the daily operations of each touring company and will report to the Chief Executive Officer.         
 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creating and maintaining complex financial documents (i.e. budgets, income projections, sales analysis) and regular reporting on status 

  • Hiring and coordinating the work of all production team members in accordance with the financial and schedule parameters of each project

  • Negotiating/drafting contracts and interpreting legal documents

  • Overseeing marketing initiatives for theatrical properties including ticket sales plan, graphic design and advertising, and publicity needs

  • Serving as the point person for all operational decisions and expense approvals

  • Some evening/weekend hours and short-term travel will be required

 

Qualifications:

  • 5 years experience in Arts Administration, Event Production, Business, General, or Project Management or related fields, with a clear demonstration of effective leadership, organization and communication

  • Strong proficiency with Google and Microsoft Office Suites

  • Resourceful, creative problem solver with the ability to work independently

  • Meticulous attention to detail and ability to prioritize effectively

  • Familiarity with contract language, vendor relations, and general accounting principles

  • Experience in theatre or the entertainment industry is preferred but not required

Marketing Coordinator

Job Description

Je’Caryous Entertainment is establishing a new hub of production in Houston and seeks a Marketing Coordinator to support their commercial theatrical touring properties.  The Marketing Coordinator will be responsible for the content creation and maintenance of the social media channels of the company and will report to the General Manager.         

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create content for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

  • Maintain social calendar

  • Social listening and community engagement

  • Collaborate with internal or external parties on paid social campaigns

  • Capture content at rehearsals, backstage, and/or marketing events

  • Write/edit copy as needed

  • Email asset creation as needed

  • Web content maintenance and updates as needed

  • Additional duties as assigned by General Manager or Marketing Director

  • Some evening or weekend hours may be required

 

Qualifications: 

  • Experience managing multiple social media channels

  • Strong time management and organization, and the ability to work independently

  • Clear verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to multitask while maintaining an attention to detail

  • Graphic design, video editing and/or photography a big plus

  • Interest in theatre or the entertainment industry and in marketing

Salary: $55k
